ABOUT THE EVENT
Preserving the Past, Shaping Our Future
Join us on Monday, January 19, when the Cleveland Museum of Art opens its doors for a free daylong celebration honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Explore how the moving passages of Dr. King’s writings and speeches shed light on the museum’s collection and create a work of art inspired by his legacy.
This year’s theme centers on reflection and the importance of preserving history and legacies – through art, performance, oral history, objects, and our communities themselves.
Guests are invited to experience the exhibition Renaissance to Runway for FREE. No tickets are required. Visitors are admitted into the exhibition throughout the day on a first-come, first-served basis.

6. Free Admission to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Rock Hall is offering free admission with advance reservations. Reserve your tickets below by selecting Monday, January 19, 2026. Maximum of four tickets per order.
MLK Day free tickets are limited and advance registration will likely reach capacity. Walk-up visitors will be admitted if space permits, on a first-come, first-served basis.

7. Free Admission to the Akron Zoo Martin Luther King Jr. Day JAN 19 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Visit the zoo to celebrate the life and work of Dr. King for racial equality and nonviolent social change. The Akron Zoo will be opening a temporary exhibit, Celebrating Black History in Perkins Woods. The exhibit shares little-known Black history that took place in the area that surrounds and includes the Akron Zoo.

8. Free Admission to the Maltz Museum January 20th from 11am-5pm
Program Schedule
11 am – 5 pm
Kids and families can enjoy fun hands-on activities throughout the day. Everyone is welcome to explore the Maltz Museum’s special exhibition, DEGENERATE! Hitler’s War on Modern Art, see the treasures and ritual objects in The Temple-Tifereth Israel Gallery and share in the Jewish immigrant experience that makes up An American Story.

Beverly Lloyd and Kwanza Brewer of the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers share civil rights stories.
1 pm – 3 pm
Watch filmmaker Larry Dubin’s landmark documentary, A Lawyer Made In Heaven: The Virgil Hawkins Story. Mr. Hawkins paved the way for black students to enter Florida State University’s Law School. Following the film, share in a discussion led by Larry Dubin. Seating is limited, please arrive early.

View artwork with a specially designed gallery guide, spend time with friends and family playing games in the lobby, and pop into the auditorium to enjoy the New York International Children’s Film Festival’s Celebrating Black Stories short films.

11. MLK DAY AT THE WATERSHED STEWARDSHIP CENTER MLK Day Nature Play January 19th 11am-3pm
Drop by the nature center between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. for crafts, scavenger hunts, live animals, and more as we honor Dr. King’s legacy of rights and respect for all! Animal meet and greets will run from 11:30 – noon and again from 1 – 1:30 p.m. Naturalist-led scavenger hunts will run from Noon - 12:30 p.m. and again from 1:30 – 2 p.m. Information about volunteering will also be available in celebration of today's National Day of Service.
